FSC MTB Series ’12

Posted on December 15, 2012

FSC#7 LakeandLast Sunday wrapped up the Gone Riding Florida State Championship mountain biking series, a nine race series which brings out the best riders across the state. I know it may be hard for some to believe, but Florida produces loads of outstanding mountain bikers and that makes for excellent competition year round, especially during the Fall with the FSC series. Until I did the whole series for the first time in 2011, I didn’t realize we had so many great trail systems in Florida. Every course in the series is ridiculously fun. From Ft. Clinch State Park in Fernandina Beach on the Georgia/Florida boarder to Amelia Earheart Park in the Miami area, I had so much fun traveling the state and tearing up the trails with great friends.

In order to qualify for overall standings and awards, riders must race in a minimum of seven out of ten (nine in the FSC series plus a make-up race from the South Florida Coconut Cup series). FSC #9 SantosI barely eked that out as I was also racing in the Checkpoint Tracker Adventure Racing National Championship and XTERRA Off Road Triathlon World Championship. With so much training time logged in other disciplines besides mountain biking, it was definitely difficult to keep up with last years FSC winner, Carolyn VanHurst. She is an amazing rider, racing for Bike America/Team Green. I had to turn myself inside out every race to stay with her, sometimes for the win and sometimes for a proud second place finish. With four 1st Place finishes and three 2nd Place finishes, I managed to finish third overall in the series since I missed FSC #6 at Markham Park which was a 15 point bonus round. But, hey, what can I say, I was at XTERRA Worlds in Maui and that surely was not a bad place to be. 🙂

Below is the 2012 FSC Race Schedule with results:
